Central Roxborough Civic Association Meeting Minutes
October 1, 2015
State Budget
CRCA President, Don Simon, opened the meeting by reading a letter written by State Representative, Pam DeLissio regarding the state budget.
Police Report
Community Relations Officer Jones and Lt. Howard spoke about the increase (3) in armed robberies in our neighborhood,
since September 14. Patrols have been increase. A description of the suspect was given. Also, car break-ins
have been reported in the 400 block of Lyceum Ave.
Membership
New attendees were welcomed and advised that CRCA public meetings are held on the 1st Thursday of each month. See Lynda Payne for membership.
Bernard Scally
Bob Spear (Friends of Gorgas Park) and James Calamia(Roxborough Development Corporation) addressed the recent death of Bernard Scally,
reporter at The Review. There will be a fundraising event, starting at the upcoming Harvest Festival, to raise money for a
remembrance plaque. Joe Dicandido of Advent Business set a November date for installation.
Roxtoberfest
The Roxtoberfest will be held Saturday, October 10th. There will be kids events, bands and a beer garden.
Mellissa Murray Bailey
Mellissa Murray Bailey, Republican candidate for Mayor spoke about her platform and vision. November 3rd is Election Day.
The Philadelphia Folk Song Society Coming to Roxborough
The Philadelphia Folk Song Society representatives Jason Dempsey and Rich Cardone will be seek a use variance for the
former church/MRI building at Ridge and Roxborough Avenue. It is zoned CMX-2 or 2.4 and will need a special
exemption for cultural exhibits and public assembly. A capital campaign is pending. It will be a historical resource
for music, and will host free community events as well as ticketed events. Attendees were in unanimous support of this project.
CRCA Bylaws
Proposed bylaw changes were read and will be submitted at November’s meeting.
